A firm believer in the power that music has to be an agent of social change and its ability to create beauty in the world, LeeAnn has dedicated the bulk of her career to music education. LeeAnn currently is a faculty member of the New England Conservatory Preparatory School and teaches string orchestra in the Cambridge Public Schools. Previously, LeeAnn served as a faculty member of the Community Programs Division of the Longy School of Music of Bard College, Boulder Suzuki Strings and the Ithaca City School District.
With deep gratitude for her myriad teachers, LeeAnn seeks to integrate their collective wisdom into her own teaching philosophy and style. She strives to create a positive and nurturing learning environment, allowing each student to find success and self-expression. Influenced by studies in yoga and the Alexander Technique, LeeAnn also works to cultivate increased body awareness and healthy practice/performance habits. Her students have performed at Symphony Hall, The Boston Children’s Museum, Harvard Square’s May Day Festival, and the Longy School of Music. They have also performed the National Anthem for a Celtics game at TD Garden.
LeeAnn Sutton received a Master of Music in Viola Performance from the University of Colorado, Boulder and a Bachelor of Music degree in Viola Performance and Music Education from Ithaca College, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude. LeeAnn is a registered Suzuki Teacher with the Suzuki Association of the Americas. She received her Suzuki training from Dr. William Starr and has also completed additional Suzuki teacher training courses with Sandy Reuning, Carrie Reuning- Hummel and Elizabeth Stuen- Walker at the Ithaca and Oregon Suzuki Institutes.
